Fellows: Currently mentoring one Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellow since 3/2013: NM, Medical College of Wisconsin. I serve as a faculty mentor on her Scholarship Oversight Committee for her fellowship research project on parental education of appropriate car seat use while waiting to be seen in the emergency department. Her work has been accepted for a platform presentation at the Pediatric Academic Societies’ meeting this spring in San Diego, CA.
I have learned quite a bit as a student and resident advisor and mentor in the short time that I have been a faculty member. Many of my advisees have been very self-sufficient and have required very little mentorship. Occasionally I have worked with a struggling student or resident and have learned how to tailor advice towards that learner depending on the circumstance. Mentoring a fellow in this capacity has been a relatively new experience.
